Bilateral relations between Morocco and Eswatini

I - Historical overview

  • The Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Eswatini established diplomatic relations in June 1996. The two Kingdoms maintain "fraternal and historical" bonds, and share the same values and the same attachment to the continent.
  • The two countries attach a great importance to the development and straitening of their excellent relations impregnated of genuine friendship, mutual understanding and respect.
II - Political Dialogue
  • In 2002, HM King Mohammed VI met, on the sidelines of the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, , the Sovereign of Eswatini, King Mswati III, to discuss together ways of further consolidating the relations of cooperation between the two countries
  • The Eswatini Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation paid a working visit to Morocco from 14 to 17 June 2017. He expressed eswatini’s full support to the strategic interest of Morocco and welcomed in a spirit of friendship the return of Morocco to the African Union (AU)
  • The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, M Nasser Bourita received, on January 09, 2018, Mr. Chief MGWAGWA Gamedze Minister for International Relations. The latter emphasized that Morocco and South Africa should continue to engage in constructive discussions to turn challenges into opportunities, building on their experiences in managing the migration problem and engaging in the sustainable development of the Continent;
  • On 10-11 December 2018, Prime Minister, HonAmbrose Mandvulo Dlamini and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mrs. Thuli Dladla took part in Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration PDF document, in Marrakesh.
  • On 23 March 2019, Minister of Public service, Hon. Christian Ntshangase, took part in the African Ministerial Conference on Support of the African Union to the United Nations Political Process on the Regional Dispute over the Sahara
  • The King of Eswatini Meswati III received,October 4 2019 in Manzini, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy, in charge of Foreign Trade, Rkia Derham, on the occasion of the launch of the African regional e-commerce platform for the region of Southern Africa (SADC).
III - Economic relations
  • On June 10, 1997, the two countries signed in Rabat an agreement establishing a joint commission for cooperation.
  • On the sidelines of the Migration Retreat, organized by Morocco from 30 October to November 2017, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Eswatini expressed the wish to see a fruitful cooperation with our country in the field of migration Agriculture, energy and health.
  • During the working visit of the Foreign Minister of Swaziland, Mr. MGWAGWA Gamedze, from 14 to 17 June 2017, the official scholarship quota for Swazi students was increased from 20 to 30 teaching places.

  • Protocol of Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries (10/06/1997).
