Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, held talks Friday in Rabat with British Minister of State for International Trade Conor Burns on ways to boost bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.

Burns, who is in Morocco for the second time in less than four months, hailed Morocco's commitment to developing and strengthening its ties with the United Kingdom.

He said that his visit to Morocco reflects the growing ties between the two countries and the importance that the British government attaches to relations with Morocco.

He highlighted the opportunities to develop bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic field, in the areas of green technologies and renewable energies.

London is hosting the world’s first UK-Africa Investment Summit later this month, which will seek to create lasting partnerships to deliver more investment, jobs and growth in the UK and Africa.

The British minister said the event will allow the two countries to discuss the ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in several sectors, while further strengthening their economic and political partnership.

Last October, Morocco and Britain signed in London a continuity agreement that replicates the effects of the existing EU-Morocco Association Agreement.

The deal will ensure British businesses and consumers benefit from continued access to the Moroccan market after Britain leaves the European Union.

British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Andrew Murrison said that “the signing of this Agreement builds on the UK’s deep cultural, political and economic ties with the region and demonstrates our commitment to increase trade and constructive dialogue with Morocco.”
