Moroccan Ex-Minister and diplomat Mohamed Aujjar to Chair OHCHR Fact-Finding Mission on Libya.

Former Moroccan Minister of Justice and diplomat Mohamed Aujjar has been appointed on Wednesday by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Michelle Bachelet as President of the Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya.

This mission was established by the Human Rights Council on 22 June 2020 to investigate allegations of human rights and humanitarian international law violations by all parties in Libya since 2016;
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, noted in this regard the deterioration of the security situation in Libya and the lack of an operational judicial system. She stressed therefore the importance of the Fact-Finding Mission and the work of independent experts team.

"This expert body will act as an essential mechanism to effectively combat widespread impunity for human rights violations and abuses, and can also operate as a dissuasive tool to prevent further violations and contribute to peace and stability in the country," said Ms Bachelet

Summary executions, torture and abuse, gender-based violence, including conflict-related sexual violence, abductions, enforced disappearances, as well as incitement to violence on social networks, continue to be committed in a climate of total impunity in Libya, she said
