The Ambassador of His Majesty the King hold talks with the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs

Ambassador Farewell

Morocco's Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Youssef Amrani, met on December 11th, 2023 in Pretoria with the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Naledi Pandor, to pay farewell to the Government, at the end of his mission in South Africa.

This meeting was, in particular, an opportunity to review the evolution of relations between the two countries and their future prospects and to discuss the main regional and international issues, including the latest developments in the Palestinian issue, the situation in Ukraine and peace and security in Africa.

In a statement to the MAP at the end of this meeting, Mr. Amrani explained that the two countries, which have maintained historical links since the period of Morocco's support for African liberation movements, now maintain a constant and frank political dialogue. He noted that Morocco and South Africa are among the most important African countries and that they both have an ambitious and optimistic vision for the future of the continent, aware of the urgency of providing concrete answers to the aspirations of African peoples, especially in terms of socio-economic development.

He added that Morocco tirelessly and with determination pursues this objective set by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, so that Africa can really occupy its rightful place at the international level. The Moroccan initiative for Atlantic Africa is thus, in accordance with the Royal Vision, a particularly relevant tool, in that it brings a global vision that gives priority to the construction of a coherent and unified region and that it enshrines the predominance of the region's development priorities over hard security approaches.

About his mission in South Africa, Mr. Amrani noted the steady growth of economic and investment relations, as well as the dynamism of cultural exchanges, particularly in the fields of sport and art. These initiatives contribute to improving mutual knowledge and understanding between the two countries, he noted.

Regarding the other countries in the region, Mr. Amrani welcomed the constant strengthening of the Kingdom's presence in the southern region of the African continent, in particular with the Kingdom of Eswatini and Botswana.

Ambassador Youssef Amrani is leaving South Africa following his appointment by His Majesty the King as Ambassador-designate of Morocco to Washington DC.
